Wedding Photographer and Videographer in the Hudson Valley and Upstate NY
Barn, farm, estate and mountain resort weddings across the Hudson Valley and upstate New York, planned as weekend coverage from our Long Island studio.
The Hudson Valley is where many New York couples go when they want a wedding that feels like a getaway. Guests drive up for the weekend, stay at an inn or a resort, and spend a day surrounded by mountains, orchards and the river. As a Hudson Valley wedding photographer and videographer traveling from Long Island, we treat these as destination weddings close to home, and we plan coverage for the whole weekend if you want it.
Barns, farms, estates and mountain resorts
Hudson Valley venues come in a few styles. Restored barns and working farms in Dutchess, Ulster and Orange counties offer timber beams, open fields and long tables under string lights. River estates around Hyde Park, Rhinebeck, Garrison and Cold Spring give you lawns and terraces with the Hudson below. In the Shawangunks and the Catskills, mountain resorts and lodges host weddings with ridge views, and Mohonk Mountain House near New Paltz is one of the best-known names in the region. Small towns like Beacon, Hudson and Kingston also have converted factories and restaurants for smaller celebrations.
Rural venues bring practical questions. Barns can be dark inside once the sun goes down, so we plan reception lighting with your venue. Weather changes fast in the hills, and a rain plan for the ceremony matters more here than in the city. Cell service can be patchy, so we confirm timings and locations with your planner before the day rather than relying on calls.
Indian and fusion weddings upstate
More families are bringing Indian, South Asian and fusion weddings to the Hudson Valley, drawn by space and scenery. An outdoor mandap on a lawn with the mountains behind it, a Haldi on a farmhouse porch, a Sangeet in a barn, and a Baraat along a country lane all suit the setting. The Agni fire needs approval from the venue, especially in wooden barns and during dry spells, and a horse for the Baraat means checking with the farm or estate early. For South Indian families, a Muhurtham in cool mountain morning air is a lovely start, and an outdoor Oonjal under the trees photographs beautifully. Our Indian wedding photography and South Indian wedding photography pages explain how we cover each ritual.
Travel and staying over
From our studio, the southern Hudson Valley is a drive of a couple of hours across the Throgs Neck or Whitestone Bridge and up the Taconic or the Thruway, and the Catskills are further. For most upstate weddings we plan to arrive the day before, especially for early ceremonies and multi-day weekends, so the team is rested and ready for getting-ready coverage. We include travel and lodging in the conversation when we put your package together.
Seasons and engagement shoots
The Hudson Valley’s seasons are its biggest draw. Peak foliage usually arrives in October, with the hills turning red and gold and the light warm and low by mid-afternoon. Late spring brings apple blossoms in the orchards and green fields. Summer gives long evenings and fireflies, and winter weddings have snow on the ridges and cosy indoor light.
For an engagement shoot, the Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie gives you the river from high above, especially at sunset. Minnewaska State Park Preserve and the Mohonk Preserve have cliffs, lakes and pine forests, with their own rules for photo sessions. The main streets of Beacon, Cold Spring and Rhinebeck suit couples who want a relaxed small-town look, and the orchards and lavender fields around the valley are lovely in season.

Golden hour comes early in the hills
Mountains and ridges change when the light goes.
In the valleys, the sun can drop behind a ridge well before the official sunset time. A lawn that glows in late afternoon may fall into shade soon after, while a hilltop terrace keeps its light longer.
We look at where your venue sits against the hills, then suggest when to step away for portraits, so you get warm light without leaving your guests for long.
Landmarks and photo spots in the Hudson Valley
The Hudson Valley gives couples river views, mountains and historic estates. Some of these places ask for a permit or a fee for professional sessions; we check the current rules before we book a time.
