Headshot and Portrait Photographer in NYC, Long Island and New Jersey

Professional headshots, team headshot days and portraits across NYC, Long Island and New Jersey, with consistent lighting so your whole team matches.

A good headshot does a lot of quiet work: on LinkedIn, on your company website, on a speaker page or a press release. Verma Photography is a headshot and portrait photographer team serving NYC, Long Island and New Jersey from our studio in New York. We photograph individual professionals, whole teams on location, and portraits for people who simply want a good picture of themselves or their family.

Individual professional headshots

Most people do not enjoy having their picture taken. We keep the session relaxed, and give clear direction on posture and expression. Before the session we talk about how you will use the photos, which tells us whether you need a clean, neutral background, an environmental portrait at your workplace, or both.

  • What to wear

solid colors usually work best, and bringing a second option is a good idea.
  • Grooming

plan a haircut a few days before, not the same morning.
  • Glasses

if you usually wear them, wear them. We will adjust lighting to manage reflections.

Team and staff headshot days

For companies, the main problem with headshots is consistency. Photos taken at different times by different people never match. We bring a lighting and background setup to your office and photograph your team one by one, with the same light, framing and background for everyone, so your website and directory look like one company.

  • Minimal disruption

each person steps away from their desk for a few minutes.
  • A schedule you control

we work from your sign-up list and can photograph late arrivals at the end.
  • Matching new hires later

ask us about recreating the same setup when new people join.

Headshot days pair well with event photography: an all-hands, a conference or a holiday party on the same day.

Portraits

Not every portrait is for work. We photograph individual and family portraits, portraits for milestones and anniversaries, and portraits for artists, performers and creatives who need images with more character than a standard headshot. For couples, see engagement photography.

Why it is worth using a professional team

Lighting, posing and consistency make the difference between a headshot people use and one they hide. Our team also photographs weddings and events, where putting people at ease quickly is the whole job. Clients who review us often mention a friendly, professional team, attention to detail and on-time delivery.

Getting the most from a team headshot day

A few simple steps make a team headshot day run smoothly. Book a room with some space and, ideally, a door, so people feel comfortable. Share a sign-up schedule in advance so people arrive in small groups rather than all at once. Send staff a short note on what to wear and to bring a second top. Decide in advance whether you want everyone on the same background, or a mix of studio-style headshots and environmental portraits at desks or in common areas.

If your company has brand guidelines on color or framing, send them over and we will match them. If you are adding new people over time, let us know when you book, so we can plan a setup that can be repeated.

Using your headshots

Professional headshots are used in more places than people expect: LinkedIn and email signatures, company and speaker pages, conference programs, press releases, proposals and pitch decks. Tell us where yours will appear, and we will make sure the framing works for square crops, wide banners and print alike.

Where we photograph headshots

We photograph headshots and portraits across New York City, especially in Manhattan offices; across Long Island, close to our New York studio; in Westchester; and throughout New Jersey, including Jersey City. For city teams, see headshots in New York City. Get in touch to plan a session.

What we need for an on-site session at your office

Most team headshot days happen in a meeting room. We bring the lights and the backdrop and set up before your first person arrives, so all your team notices is a few minutes away from their desk.

A room with a door helps people relax, and a little space behind each person lets us separate them from the background. If your office has a good wall, a window or a branded space, we can take environmental portraits there as well.

  • A room, ideally with a door, cleared before we arrive
  • Power outlets nearby
  • Time to set up before the first slot
  • One contact who knows the schedule
  • A mirror close by for a last check

What to wear for your headshot

A short note you can forward to your team.

Choosing a headshot style

Most companies choose one look for everyone. Some mix two.

  • Classic

Head and shoulders on a plain background, evenly lit. The look for directories, LinkedIn and email signatures.

  • Environmental

Taken in your workplace, with the office softly out of focus behind you. Warmer and more personal, good for about pages.

  • Half-length

Framed wider, with space on one side for text. Useful for web banners, speaker pages and conference screens.

  • Candid at work

People in meetings, at desks or with clients. Not headshots, but useful for your website and recruiting.

  • Black and white

A classic option for leadership pages or creative teams, taken in the same session.
