A Sikh and Western wedding highlight film

This highlight film comes from Amar and Abby’s wedding, which brought two traditions together: the Anand Karaj at the gurdwara, and a ceremony on the waterfront with the Manhattan skyline behind them. It runs longer than a short teaser, so both ceremonies have room to breathe.

Two ceremonies, one film

When a wedding holds two ceremonies, the film has to make them feel like one story. Here the color and pacing carry through from the gurdwara to the waterfront vows, and the families appear in both. Read more on fusion and multicultural weddings.

Filming an Anand Karaj

An Anand Karaj takes place in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib, with the sangat seated on the floor around the couple. Our videographers cover their heads, remove their shoes and follow the gurdwara’s rules on where cameras may stand, keeping low and quiet during the four Laavan. The sound of the Raagis singing each Laav is as important to the film as the picture, so we plan audio as carefully as camera positions.

The rest of the day

Around the ceremony are the moments families remember most: the Milni as the two families meet, the blessings afterwards, the langar, and the evening’s celebrations. A highlight film weaves these together so the ceremony sits at the heart of the day rather than standing alone.

What a highlight film leaves out

A highlight film is a summary, so it cannot hold every Laav, every speech and every relative. Families who want the whole ceremony to watch again can add a longer ceremony edit, which keeps the Anand Karaj in full alongside the highlight.
